I’ve been watching numerous ones tonight, and I have to say – I’m encouraged. I’m very aware that there are a lot of Christians who condemn homosexuality and dehumanize gays. But there are also Christians out there (and not just random kids – but leaders in the Christian churches) who understand that even though we’re gay – we’re still human. And we struggle with the same emotions and issues that are common to all humans. The need for love, acceptance, etc. It’s not like we’re a different species than straight people – in fact, we’re very much the same, but were simply dealt a slightly different hand of cards in the game of life.
Haha probably no one is actually interested in watching any videos whatsoever – but I’ve been feeling reflective tonight, which is why I did some surfing, and it’s why I’m sharing now. Here are a couple in case anyone feels like looking.
http://www.youtube.com/user/jesterdb#p/u/16/W4I0cbs7HTQ – I was so impressed that a Christian woman of this age was so understanding (and I’m sad to hear that she passed away a few years ago).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1lFemAv9kw&t=3m16s – A woman’s story of coming to terms with her child being gay. This is a link to the specific portion of the video where she addresses ex-gay ministries.
I just fricking love hearing people tackle real life issues with honesty, integrity, and empathy.
In case you’re wondering, I’m an atheist who was raised Christian, and is gay. Even though I don’t adhere to the belief system of Christianity, I still have a soft spot for Christians and am always pained when I see them acting foolishly, and encouraged when I see them acting with maturity and empathy.
By the way – I fricking love you Y!A peeps. <3 You’re great.
Agreed Ashlie. =D
Techno and Sher – totally valid. I’ve often avoided them too. I’ve seen too many videos that just make my blood boil.
Haha I like you Dave. You’re great. Yeah, many churches definitely ignore the sins within their congregations and distract themselves with other things (ie uniting to fight the against their common "enemy" of homosexuality).
That’s true Kyle – I’m sure she still didn’t think that being homosexual was a great thing. I think my love for the video comes from my Christian background. I’m so used to the older generation of Christians being so condemning that it’s always inspiring to me when they’re willing to listen and be empathic and not just immediately assume homosexuality = you’re a bad person. We didn’t choose to be gay. And as for the second video – agreed. Very powerful choice of words.
I watched both of them, the first video lost my interest, I felt she was more supportive of her son rather then accepting, sure she loves him but she still seems to condone it. When she said the words "tell your son I love you and I’m going to pray for you"….that just made me think, she is probably taking her son in with open arms but she still seems to pray to god to lead him through the right path as she sees it in the bible and not in reality.
The second video touched me a lot, "would you rather have a gay child or a dead child". That really hit me, she had a powerful choice of words. It takes time for parents to accept it but in the end they will love you unconditionally the next day, in a 1 week, 1 month or in a Year, it takes time but every parent will come around.
she sings a lot of songs with them, but I thought it was just the guys.
And they were bringing children to him, that he might touch them; and the disciples rebuked them.
But when Jesus saw it he was indignant, and said to them,
"Let the children come to me, do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of God.
Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it."
And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands upon them.

As a former protestant (Nazarene, Baptist, Methodist, etc – I was a church bouncer lol) of 35 years I can tell you that protestants do not confess their sins to anybody, they think that they can confess directly to God as if when we sin it only hurts God and not our fellow man…wow
As a catholic we confess to "one another" as the Bible says and the reason why its a priest who we are confessing to is because that is how Jesus set it up. You see in the gospel according to John Chapter 20 Jesus breathes the Holy Spirit upon the apostles there and gives them the power to forgive sins or retain them. Jesus wanted them to continue his ministry on Earth by the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus did not leave us orphans, He left us his divine authority and healing ministries as they exist in the one true church, the Roman Catholic Church.
Peace to you all and God bless you during this wonderful Easter Season!!
As a former Protestant who is in the process of converting to Catholicism, I can tell you it is because Protestants feel that they should could confess only to God, not to another human. Protestants are very touchy about this, too, much like their attitude toward Mary. As a child, I was told that Catholics worship the Pope, pray to Mary, practice idolatry and a lot of other nonsense. I now know this is untrue. Protestants misunderstand many Catholic beliefs and customs.

Smith Wigglesworth was an evangelist with a very significant healing ministry in the 1st half of the 20C.
Obviously using King James Version English – "Yea" meaning "Yes" as I expect 95% of you know. "Amen" meaning "Let it Be", the traditional Jewish end to a prayer.
@MaidAngela – It means God will fulfil all his promises to those who believe them.
God used Smith Wigglesworth powerfully, but, like all of us fallible humans, he misunderstood some things God says in His word. God does give good gifts to His kids, no doubt about it, but it’s important to understand that God reserves the gifts and timing of giving of these gifts according to His plan and purpose for each Christian’s life. Scripture does indicate different amounts of gifts being given to servants, for example. That would indicate that the servants were expected to handle the level of gifts and grow in them. The principle stands for any gifts God gives us as well. They are not ours to "claim" because they seem good to us, but they are God’s to give as they benefit our spiritual growth and contribution to the work He has given us to be and do.
I am expecting a miracle to happen in my life on May 8th of this year:
Some things I expect to happen:
a) restoration of my soul
b) restoration of my morals
c) healing from years of emotional abuse
d) restoration of my perception
e) restoration of my crown of glory and of my joy
f) restoration of lost romantic relationships
g) restoration of my health
h) restoration of my intelligence
i) restoration of my holiness
j) restoration of my ministry, kingdom and career
k) restoration of favor with both God and men
The Almighty Lord answers my prayers all the time-which I believe to be a miracle in itself!
1. My hamster had a huge abscess on her stomach, and when I prayed, it was healed completely the next day!
2. I prayed that my house wouldn’t burn in a fire that took place here (ash was blowing into our yard) and He spared my house and everyone elses!
3. One of my rabbits was acting lethargic and wasn’t eating or drinking and when I prayed, he immediatly felt better and started eating hay and acting normal again!
4. And the most important prayer that was answered was when I asked Jesus to come into my heart and forgive me of all sin!
when in a ‘healing ministry’?
What does this section teach about healing
and how it works? How is faith a part of it?
Why does Jesus say nothing when the girl
is pronounced dead? What was Jairus part
in getting the healing started for his daughter?
While I don’t give thumbs down, please, sincere
helpful answers within the Guidelines. Thanks
Without faith works are dead. Faith shows belief.
Biblical references are helpful here.

The Gospel accounts show that Jesus often turned to God in prayer. (Mark 1:35; Luke 5:16; 22:41) During his ministry on earth, Jesus deliberately set aside time to pray. The disciple Matthew wrote: “Having sent the crowds away, [Jesus] went up into the mountain by himself to pray.” (Matthew 14:23) From such moments spent in quiet communication with his heavenly Father, Jesus gained strength. (Matthew 26:36-44) Today, spiritually-minded people likewise look for opportunities to communicate with God, knowing that this will strengthen their relationship with the Creator and help them to become more Christlike in their thinking.
Jesus often spent extended periods of time in prayer. (John 17:1-26) For instance, before he chose the 12 men who would become his apostles, Jesus “went out into the mountain to pray, and he continued the whole night in prayer to God.” (Luke 6:12) Although not necessarily spending the whole night in prayer, those who are spiritually-minded follow Jesus’ example. Before making major decisions in life, they take ample time to pray to God, seeking the direction of the holy spirit in making choices that will deepen their spirituality.
In his prayers, Jesus also showed the depth of feeling that we ought to imitate in our prayers. Note what Luke recorded about the way Jesus prayed on the evening before he died. “Getting into an agony he continued praying more earnestly; and his sweat became as drops of blood falling to the ground.” (Luke 22:44) Jesus had prayed earnestly before, but on this occasion, faced with the most severe test of his earthly life, he prayed “more earnestly”—and his prayer was answered. (Hebrews 5:7) Spiritually-minded people follow Jesus’ example. When faced with trials that are particularly severe, they pray “more earnestly” to God for holy spirit, guidance, and support.
Since Jesus was clearly a man of prayer, it is not surprising that his disciples wanted to imitate him in this regard. Therefore, they asked him: “Lord, teach us how to pray.” (Luke 11:1) Similarly today, those who value spiritual matters and want to be guided by God’s holy spirit follow Jesus’ example in how they pray to God. True spirituality and prayer go hand in hand.
Suppose the money was from drugs or prostitution or banker’s bonus???
yes of course, God can take anything bad and make it for good, for His purposes.
