How do I go about starting a women’s ministry at my church?

I need to know what resources I can tap into.

These answers are silly. Talk to the pastor and/or his wife about it. If you see a need, others probably do as well. If your church hierarchy is different, talk to whoever is directly over you (deacon, whatever).

Resources are abundant. At my last church, I was in 2 women’s ministries. Sunday School was a ladies class and Wednesday night was a Mom’s group. Both were great.

    1st Timothy Chapter 2
    In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

Your first move is to determine whether there’s a real need for your involvement. Women’s ministries are best left to the women themselves.

If you don’t have a ministry at your church, several reasons could be the reason, one being that people are looking at particular scriptures (out of context and cultural understandings from when it was written), and using them as the wild card to trump the ministry. If such is the case, then the Bible would be the place to go. Here are some passages you can look up to support the necessity, the permission, and the ministry from in the Early Church:

    -Genesis 1:26-28
    -Exodus 15:20-21, 38:8
    -Judges 4-5 (Deborah)
    -1 Samuel 2:1-10
    -2 Kings 22:14-20 (Miriam & Huldah)
-Joel 2:28-32 (used also in Acts 2:17-21): daughters will also prophesy
-Acts 21:9 (ministry of the Holy Spirit through women)
    -Galatians 3:28
-Romans 16 (mentions 10 different women engaged in various kinds of ministries)
-Romans 16:1,2 (Phoebe: probably delivered the letter to the Romans, described as a deacon)
    -Acts 18:26 (Prisca/Priscilla)
    -Romans 16:6 & 12 (Mary, Tryphaena, Tryphosa, & Persis)
-Romans 16:7 (Junia = an apostle, often thought to be a man named Junias, but no such name is found elsewhere in Greek culture)
-1 Corinthians 11:5 (it’s clear that women were prophesying in the church. The only concern was the way they dressed).
    -1 Corinthians 1:11 (Chloe’s household, aka, Chloe’s house church)
-1 Corinthians 14:34-35 (taken out of context. Do research on this for better understanding)
    -Philippians 4:2-3 (Euodia & Syntyche)
-Also, the Church of Philippi was founded on women, and one of them, Lydia, obviously played an important role in the origin and growth of this church.
