Need funny God-related videos?!?

Posted by admin on February 15th, 2010 and filed under ministry videos | 6 Comments »

Our church has an excellent youth ministry program, and shows funny videos and does skits all pertaining to Jesus but normally funny enough that the kids can relate back to it.. :) And so they all get a good laugh..

Here are some examples of movies we’ve showed:

We’re a Christian Church.. we’re not solely one denomination.. meaning we don’t just belong nto First Baptist or Methodist.. we welcome anybody and we are based on Christianity.. a very laid back environment and TONS of kids and teenagers go its the best youth program I’ve ever been to! I’m only an 8th grader!

We have about 1,000 in attendance and live in a relatively small town.. that’s huge!!!

There are a few funnier videos they showed.. one about a mohawk guy on a park bench and he’s sitting by a guy in a business suit and you hear a voice debating about whether to invite the other cos they’re weird and at the end the ewird mohawk guy pulls out a flyer and offers it to the business man.. it was a hilarious twist! Can’t find it, argh!

But please put down any and all suggestions for funny god-related videos I could suggest for them to show!!!

My first thoughts were the movies in which George Burns plays God and visits a character played by John Denver, and Monty Python’s "The Life of Brian". When we watched it once when my husband was in seminary, he was explaining all of the theological history with it and how much the writers had to have known/learned just to write the movie. However, I think Monty Python is more college age and older (especially with a few beers) than high school. Also, there would probably be some parents who would be against their children watching it. (Come to think of it, the next time my husband’s parents or mine come for a visit, we will do a very cheap date– "The Life of Brian", a six pack of real beer, a bowl of popcorn upstairs in our TV room with the large screen TV.)

ETA: There are also several good episodes of "The Simpsons" that are very theologically based. (The one when Homer decides he doesn’t need church; The one when Bart goes to Catholic school, the one when the church goes commercial…)

There’s this great website that has funny "felt-board" (if you have been in churches for a few decades and know what they are) videos. You have to purchase them, but some churches can get discounts and they aren’t too expensive and you can watch clips that are previews. It’s called the "Seldom Animated Bible Stories" videos. They are beyond hilarous! The link is below.
