Regarding our door to door ministry?

I find it kind of surprising how people say we "shove the bible down their throat" I have been a witness for 23 years. Anyone that I have went door to door has never acted that way. Sure, were going to ask questions. How else would we know what people think about the bible?
some people actually do worry about their future. I went out this week, I spoke with a baptist,Catholic, buddist, those were the ones who told me what they were. They had no interest in the bible, but, We got along fine. I don’t understand how people can think that every blue moon that a witness knocks on your door, and talks for less than 5 minutes is that big of a deal. I’m sure many people spend their time on mindless things such as tv, video games, not saying anything is wrong with that, but…I just don’t understand the bg deal of talking with someone for a few minutes. I’m always nice to people when they come to my door. Even was nice before I became a witness. I’ll see what you have to say…..Mark

I have always had good conversations with people. Some people on here are rude, but not all. There is an atheist studying the bible with Jehovah’s witnesses now. He said he tried to fight it but lost. :)

My home is my place of solitude. If I need something in life, I will go out and get it. No offense but knocking on peoples homes is flat out pathetic. How intrusive and rude can one be? My own Mom "calls" me before she arrives. Think about it.

Tell you what. I’ll go door to door giving people "examples" of just how much fun fight club can be.

The only doors I’ll be knocking on are the doors of people who go door to door to preach.

Asking someone you don’t even know their religious beliefs is very impolite…and uninvited,to boot.

I know what you’re talking about. it’s not like your are trying to bite them or rob them. I think people just don’t like talking to people or that they feel their time on watching the telly or playing on the computer is more of a better time than chit-chating and making new friends.

A religion that respects itself wouldn’t be so desperate to gain converts so as to go door to door trying to persuade people. Try to be a bit more elitist!

I think the biggest problem is that you are wrong. By this I mean your ideas are dangerous nonsense. That is why people get annoyed when you proliferate them. Only the very vulnerable or the very stupid will follow you, which makes you predators in a way.

    great points in your question.

its true: most people will spend 5 hours aimlessly watching TV commercials but won’t spend 5 minutes talking about simple spiritual matters.

    why? they’re scared.

but these times may change that. with increasing uncertainty, people need some kind of foundation beyond an electronic gadget, paper money and belief that dirt swirls together to form stuff.

Baptists and Catholics are Christians, so I find it very strange that you would claim they had "no interest in the Bible".

Add "lying for the greater good" to "shoving your beliefs down my throat".

And please respect the no solicitors sign posted at the entrance.

I actually have no problem with JWs and Mormons who come to my door. They are usually very polite and leave immediately upon me telling them I’m not interested. Though sometimes they come in for a minute to get out of the weather and have something to drink.

I do think it’s sort of a bizarre thing to do and a bit inappropriate. When you knock on someone’s door with the intent to sell them on your religion you are making it clear that you believe you know what it is in someone’s heart better than they know themselves. If you didn’t think you knew my heart and mind better than I then you wouldn’t be coming to my door to set me straight, you’d leave me to my own devices. I consider door-to-door evangelism egotistical.

Some of us enjoy our privacy. We don’t like to be disturbed by strangers. We are not trying to be defensive or rude, we just don’t appreciate being disturbed during our valuabe family or self time while at home. When you have small children and have just gotten them down for a nap or whatever and some stranger at the door wakes them up, it is very frustrating.

Trust me, if I am interested in learning about Bible thumpers, I can research it myself or reach out myself. I don’t need you on my porch.

Yes, I’m a witness too. Here is the thing, you can’t get hung up on those type of people. You just have to move on to the ones that WANT to learn. These are they type of servants Jehovah wants. The ones that WANT and are WILLING to serve him. Jehovah can read hearts and he knows who is wanting to learn about the bible, and he WILL make sure that these people are reached. I REALLY hope you don’t get discouraged. That is what Satan the adversary is wanting. Just stay strong brother, and pray to Jehovah to sustain you and keep you zealous in the ministry.

    Your Brother.

I’ve never had a problem with any door to door ministries. They come, I tell them I’m no thank you, and they go on their way. Never been offended in the slightest. In fact, I’ve found most of them to be very nice folks with a genuine desire to help.

But it does bother some people. Their attitudes bother you, you’re actions bother them. We’re all welcome to our own emotions, no?

Mark I agree with you 100% even if I am not a witness. I think the people who say that they are gullible and insecure. I could never imagine anyone forcing anything on me, in me, through me…….never. Many witnesses come my way and we have wonderful conversation and I could never say that any was rude, subjective or any of the like. What I always say, if they come knocking you don’t have to answer. It’s like people who complain about the stuff on television…..change the channel or throw out the tv.

How can you not get it that we don’t want you knocking on our door AT ALL? If I or anyone else wanted to know Jesus or about him, we’d know where to come! Do you think people are so stupid they need to be BOTHERED at their own home to hear about it, they wouldn’t know to go to a church to hear about it? NO other religion has to try and take it to a person’s home, puts it on billboards or yard signs or commercials on TV! I can only believe that God/Jesus would be horrified to see such disrespect of them! Those kind of actions are about as far from HOLY as you can get! You bring religion to a whole new low by doing these things! LEAVE PEOPLE ALONE! If they want it, they will come to you!

I think a lot of people feel like your trying to put your beliefs on them, which I think is wrong. I think as a society that people have become more detached from the world due to things such as the Internet and television. People don’t really spend as much time interacting with others as say a decade or more ago!

Most people are courteous enough to say their not interested, unless you keep returning to the same home every week. Not that many people are obnoxious enough to tell a ministering Christian to take their religion and shove it. I personally hate solicitors and any form of telemarketing.

Usually, I just need to hang up an LGBT Flag on my porch to keep all homophobic religious fanatics away.

The LGBT Flag and marriage equality propaganda is like kryptonite to Christians, so feel free to show your support of the LGBT community and you will soon see a great decline in those annoying Christian solicitors.

    Amen.

People don’t actually know why they have these crazy thoughts about Jehovah’s Witnesses.

I believe it to be a kind of grape vine thing…. one person says they shove the Bible your throat and everyone in their line of contacts thinks we shove the bible down their throat. Its a bit like chinese whisperss… All these false beliefs.

I am not surprised though………. Satan is misleading the entire inhabited earth, we know this because the Bible tells us the way it is. Satan wants people to think bad of us.

I love going door to door. It is so satisfying to know that i am doing the work of our creator.

Hello, I’ve pretty much found that tring to tell anyone on here why we go door to door is futile because most eveyone on here is hardheaded and unwilling to listen as well as the fact that most of them have predetremined prejudices about us. Something that people need to remember is that we’re regular people just like everyone, just because we choose to IMITATE jesus and be active in our ministry doesn’t mean we;re freaks, we go out and do other stuff like eveyone else…I go shopping, go to the movies, the gym, out to eat with my husband and friends, I go to concerts and fashions shows even, I do almost everything other people do I just choose to have morals that i adhere to.

why would you want to go door too door, when if God calls someone, they will go looking,it is not because you went knocking on someones door and they actually bought into what your jahovas witness false watch tower doctrine that converted them, you act as if your god by going door to door, when God say’s He is the one that does the calling. You go door to door cause that is what your church requires of you to do,so you will get into heaven, rather than placing your faith in the work of what Yeshua did on the cross, you stumble over it,rather than accept it.
Your trying to be that 144,000 thinking thier to be jahovas witnesses, are there now more than a million of you,so now you will change your doctrine again to fit what you believe.READ THIS…

Does God command Christians to go from door to door preaching the gospel?

Based on a quick reading and misinterpretation of Acts 20:20, many believe that the apostle Paul preached the gospel of the kingdom from house to house, to those who were unconverted. But when the entire paragraph is read, starting in verse 17, the proper meaning can be understood.

Paul “sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the Church,” saying to them, “I…have taught you publicly, and from house to house.” He taught the Church leaders in their own homes. Paul did not go from house to house, teaching whomever answered his knock at the door.

At his own hired house in Rome, Paul “received all that came in unto him, preaching the kingdom of God,” which Christ had commanded him to preach (Acts 28:30-31). Christ had personally taught the gospel to Paul (I Cor. 15:8; Gal. 1:11-2:2). One of Christ’s teachings was that we are not to force our beliefs on anyone (Matt. 7:6). This makes clear that Paul did not try to convert people by preaching from house to house. His public teachings were carried out mainly in the Jewish synagogues.

Acts 2:46 is another widely misunderstood verse: “And they [the twelve apostles and other disciples], continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness.” It is important to note that these individuals were unified. They continued daily with “one accord.” They all believed the same things. This scripture is describing people who ate together, just as someone might invite friends and close acquaintances to his home for a meal and fellowship. These verses make no mention of Church members going out of their way to preach the gospel to strangers.

In this particular circumstance, many from different nations had gathered at Jerusalem to keep Pentecost, one of God’s annual feasts. Since they had traveled a great distance and had no home in Jerusalem, the Jerusalem brethren invited them to their homes to eat. (The King James Version of the Bible uses the term “breaking bread” to signify eating a meal.) Converted Christians were eating in the homes of other converted Christians—they were not preaching in the homes of unconverted individuals or families.

In Luke 10:5-7, we find direct instruction from Christ not to preach from house to house: “And into whatsoever house you enter, first say, Peace be to this house. And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again. And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the laborer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.” Christians should never be out trying to force anyone to accept the truth of the Bible. Christ showed that God’s Word is too valuable and precious for us to flaunt carelessly (Matt. 7:6). We are instructed to “let your light so shine before men” (Matt. 5:16). A light does not make noise. Therefore, Christians are to teach by their examples.

Conversely, we might ask, “Should we invite into our homes ministers or others who are going from house to house teaching doctrines contrary to the Bible?” God’s instruction on this matter is found in II John, verses 10-11: “If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that bids him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.”

Christ’s example, and that of the apostles, is that Christians neither preach from house to house nor invite into their homes anyone approaching them soliciting a false gospel or any other man-made religion.

See it is not biblical one bit…

forget all that. ask yourself why you had to get religion in order to talk
to people. as far as possible be on good terms with all people.

going door to door is not homework. how much talking do you do like this day to day? jesus life was his job. walk like jesus, talk like jesus, think like jesus, live like jesus.

jehovahs witnesses are not god, they are men and women. do not make the mistake of thinking that they have all the answers, that they are always right, or that they know what you should be doing with your life.

be careful of who you choose for masters. my only master is god, and jesus. they dont tell me what to do, they only ask, and wait for me to decide. you cannot serve god and man. you can serve man thru god, or god thru man, but many men will not thank you for bringing god to their door.

Well, first of all, if you are neither invited nor announced, you can bet you are also unwelcome. In other words, you have no business at my door.

Secondly, many people know that the only reason you are proselytizing is because you think this will gain you more points in your competition to get to Heaven. You don’t care specifically about the person, just your bloody point-mongering, and that is a real turn-off.

Finally, when you come to MY house and ask MY religious affiliation or whether I read the Bible, remember this: you are on MY property, taking up MY time. You choose to bother people in your spare time and that is your business. What I choose to do in my spare time is MY business.

So the bottom line is this: if I tell you to get lost and you don’t move along quickly, you will also be trespassing and I will not hesitate to call the cops. You would do well to write my response in your records, so that you don’t make the mistake of bothering me again.

Mark, I too is one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Some find it very offensive because they do not know what God’s will is and why Jesus said what he did at Matthew 28:19-20 Go therefore and make disciples of people of all nations……When Jesus and his disciples went out to preach, Jesus commission and commanded that they preach to any and everyone that they come across whether it was in cities, towns, marketplaces, in the public square, in the fields or wherever you could find them. We do the same accept there are broader avenues of where we preach and to whom to preach too. Matthew 24:14 says to preach to all the inhabited earth…
We are not out to convert no one. Just trying to show people the truths about what the Bible truly teaching about God’s kingdom and how his kingdom will wipe away what is promised at Revelation 21: 4.
Most of the time people don’t know what we truly stand for. All they see is the fact that we go door to door knocking on them. One day they will know our purpose.
